Any event attended by the public may require a permit from your local municipality, and events with more than 2,000 attendees fall directly under SASREA. Requirements vary by city and venue, which is why we assess every event individually and confirm exactly what applies to you.
The Safety at Sports and Recreational Events Act 2 of 2010 (SASREA) is South African legislation that governs safety at sports, recreational, religious, cultural, and entertainment events. It sets out the requirements for event permits, safety planning, and the appointment of an event safety officer.
An event safety officer is responsible for the overall safety of an event. They oversee the safety plan, coordinate with SAPS, medical, and security services, conduct inspections during build up, and remain on site to manage safety throughout the event.
Our event safety officers hold recognised health and safety qualifications and have hands-on experience across festivals, sporting events, concerts, and corporate events. Every appointment is made formally in terms of Section 4 of SASREA.
Most municipalities require applications to be submitted well in advance of the event date, and larger events need more lead time. We recommend contacting us as early as possible so there is enough time for the risk assessment, safety plan, and permit approval.
Accredited programmes are delivered by experienced facilitators and assessors, ensuring practical knowledge transfer aligned with legislative requirements and industry standards.
